Re: 3d in Tvpaint?

Please don't. There's a plethora of 3D software out there, even for free. I don't want a perfectly functional 2D software get ruined by trying to cram 3D into it. If you need 3D, get 3D. No need to put it elsewhere.

Re: Clean-up

I'm pretty fast with cleanup and inbetweens, it's just a matter of training, I think. I rotate the drawings often or flip the view, if you put this on a keystroke, you're much faster in TVP than switching to other progams. Vector programs have it easier since you can define an overall value for tamp...

Re: Clean-up

IMHO this is just normal behaviour of all brushes I use, be it digital or on paper. If I need 2 tapered ends, I do 2 strokes, like I did all my life.

Re: Layer plane tests

Have you tried following that plane with the camera a bit more? Second shot looks nice, but a bit undecisive. Make the plane slower, but all clouds (including the farthest) faster, while keeping their relative speeds. I've noticed that I tend to overthink this stuff: each time I try to incorporate m...

Re: Lock Layer to Camera?

Now you get it! You could say everything in the FX panel is just a "latent" image as long as you don't hit apply . After Apply the result exists as fixed layers in the timeline. FX will keep the settings, so you can apply the same effect again to different layers, or even store them away for later u...

Re: Importing Photoshop layers

Even if it's just 1 scene asking for 16bit, it still doesn't make much sense if the following steps in the pipeline don't recognize it. Is my editing software up to the task? I just researched a bit and found that Final Cut X can import images up to 16bit, and it's possible to export 16bit from ther...

Re: Importing Photoshop layers

Ha - you may tweak and optimize your gradient as much as you will, but in the end it will look only as good as the screening format permits - digital TV uses heavy compression (different for different TV channels), so you will not even get nice clean banding but ugly blocky compression artefacts. Bu...

Re: Importing Photoshop layers

Because TVP only works with 8bit per colour channel. And IMHO this is enough. 1. You can't see a difference between an image done in 16bit converted to 8bit with your naked eye anyway. 2. You don't have a monitor which is calibrated for 16bit, so it can't display enough different shades anyway. 3. T...

Re: Any good example using TVPaint for games?

All of my students knew PS, and some even some other animation programs, so I expected some reservations. But I trained them the basics over and over, until after about 2 weeks they felt comfortable with TVP as well.

Re: Keyframes

You need to render the effect.
1. Create your keyframes to your liking.
2. Select the range of frames you want to apply the FX to.
3. Hit "Apply".
This is the way for all FX.

Some advice from the old ones:
Only do Rotoscoping if you get paid really, really, REALLY well.

Ah, sorry, of course you first have to render the layers.

Re: Is there a convenient way to create a camera move on twos?

Do it on 1's and stretch.
Example: The camera move shall be 100 frames long. I do it in 50, then stretch that timeline without interpolation to 100.

Re: Lock Layer to Camera?

You don't even have to render the multiplane setup. FX always uses projects as source in their actual state of visible/invisible layers. Try this: - have animated walk in place in one project, and animated multiplane setup in second project - in first project, open FX > Keyframer and choose second p...
