I know I'm a bit late with my comment now, but wanted to add that at some point I started to appreciate the Multiplane Camera effect. It offers many more options and more controle than just the camera tool!
By the way, I saw that in the latest TVP update (just last week) there was an additional file added with a AE script (AfterEffects Import TVPaint JSON.jsx which you can just copy into programme > adobe > aftereffects > support files > scripts), which allows you to import TVP projects which you have exported as JASON-files. (export with layer structure) Haven't tried it out yet, but will give it a go when I do my next compositing.
