lag/latency still problem with tvp11 and sierra

Post by CharlieC »

hi all-

i'm now running sierra 10.12.3 on a new macbook pro,
bought tvp 11.0.6, installed 64 bit and 32 bit,
re-installed same sentinel driver 7.4.2,
new cintiq 22hd with new driver 6.3.20-11 (the previous one also had the problem)

and i'm still getting that drawing lag/latency (the shaky lines and sharp angles on curved lines) in both 64 and 32 bit, where as in past versions 32 always worked without the lag, but 64 was unusable.
now both 64 and 32 have it, although 64 does it slightly less they're both unusable as is.

i'll try attaching 2 pix of each:

The missing dots bug was fixed a loooooong time ago (with the release of the 11.0.3 in March 2016) and there was no problem during long months.

But once again, Apple changed the rules with its last update ...
I don't know how many time we will have to fix this. Thanks Apple.

can you think of any work arounds for me? i'd love to use all this new stuff, but if not i might have to use el capitan and tvp 10 32 bit; that's the last combo that worked for me. (come to think of it- i have yet to check tvp 11 with el capitan or yosemite cuz i couldn't get my sierra laptop to boot from external drive backups for some reason.)

or move to/learn windows...

i'm learning toon boom harmony for the deforming tools mainly and the vector art less so, but i love the paint quality of tvp.

At the moment, we are trying to understand what was changed by Apple. As they don't give any informations at all, it takes time.
We will keep you posted.

i think i narrowed down the problem to the cintiq driver talking with sierra, as other programs are also negatively affected (photoshop, after effects, toonboom). in all the programs the stylus will often not trigger buttons or other functions correctly when clicked, while the trackpad cursor triggers everything on the cintiq properly. but the stylus and the cintiq seem to be acknowledging each other fine as the blinking light proves whenever contact is made, and all works perfectly if run a different os from an external hd.
i talked with wacom and got emailed a long list of maintenance and uninstalling/reinstalling to do, which i followed carefully but all the problems persist. not sure what the next move is... older osx/older drives? workaround until apple and wacom fix it? arrrgh.

hey- can i install my tvp11 other os' i've backed up if i want to revert?

also- the instructions for tvp11 said to throw out all other tvp versions, which i did. is that really necessary? i used to keep multiple versions installed in the past.

Yes you can install TVPaint on other OS, as many times as you wish.
No, it's not necessary to uninstall older TVPaint version, but it's useless to keep them.

Sometimes it is useful to have an older version of software available. There are several scenarios when it would make sense.
Main System: Mac Mini running OS X: Big Sur | M1 | 16GB RAM | have not installed TVPaint on new M1 need to update to current as of 9/2022 ...pending non-dongle license 1/2023 | iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Astropad | Wacom Intros Pro

i've re-installed el capitan over sierra, and here's an update to the "dotted line" latency test on both TVP11 64 and 32 bit:

Hi,

Strange, during one year, we had no problem on El Capitan... If you still have a 11.0.3 64bits installer, could you try it on El Capitan please ? If you don't have the installer, we can send you a link.
If the lag is still present, that means Apple updated something or Wacom with their drivers.

Don't know if it helps, but I can confirm I have the same latency problem with TVP 11 and Sierra.
Happens in 64bit version but not 32bit

TVPaint 11.0.1
macOS Sierra 10.12.3

Cintiq 21UX
Wacom Driver Version 6.3.14-2
