Pixel Art

Post by zhichunp »

Greetings, Its my first time posting so hopefully I'm doing this correctly...
I've been trying to make pixel art with the mechanical pencil tool on a 240 x 135 canvas, and during export I upscale the canvas by 8 so it's in 1080. However, this turns everything blurry. Does anyone know how to get around this? I've also tried using the grid but its surprisingly ineffective, the whole thing only looks pixelated but in reality isn't accurate. Thanks a lot!

Cut the whole project with the "cut brush" tool.
Then edit the brush, set the size to whatever you want, set "AAliasing" to "None".
Then in the export panel, at the very top, choose to export the "Custom Brush".
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

I use the Edit Brush way too :)

If you want to draw straight to a 1920x1080 project, things are a bit tricky:

- add a 8x8 grid (for a 240x135 picture in 1:1),
- use a square/brush of 8x8 (to fit the size of the grid),
- set the color mode (of the brush): from 'original stamp' to 'alpha stamp' to be able to change your colors on the fly,
- draw with 'free hand dotted line' not "free hand stroke", it's the only way to stay within the lines!

Thank you friends! That was very helpful. you people deserve a Nobel prize for the smart use of cut tool...

However I think mox's second method might be more effective when animating a longer scene? Since the cut brush would need to cut and export each frames individually, or am I doing this wrong again...?

No, the cutbrush works over any range of frames (which you have to select first).
