stretching animlayer problem

Post by Paul Fierlinger »

When I stretch a new animlayer the icons disappear. By clicking RMB or doing anything else inside the individual frames makes the icons appear -- one frame at a time. This looks like a bug, correct?

A Stretch of a new animlayer with one frame only change the exposure of this frame

I don't think it's a bug,
when you stretch an animlayer, you have new options :
- repeat/hold, ...
- add empty exposures,
- add empty images,

if you are in repeat/hold mode, the icon stay on the head only,
the others frames become exposures,
that's the instance technology!

Nope. Here's the problem: Sandra works with a shadow effect where she makes an anim layer of all pure black frames. Then she goes from frame to frame, erasing certain places out. I think it's a bug because of the odd work around that fixes it ... frame by frame.

after stretching the layer, she probably have to [Select All Frames + Break] it.

ps: [Break] is the "B on yellow" button from the Instance panel.

Sorry, I don't quite understand. Does this mean that what we see is normal? I also am curious if you can repeat what I have described.

yes, it's the normal behavior,
to get separated instances, (one head each frame), do as mentioned above,
select all and Break.

(or, alternatively, use the old "Duplicate Image" command).

Maybe you should read the manual to understand all about instance.
Lesson 6 Page 10: Working with instances.

Roselle2, this is not a problem anymore for me. These changes to the anim layer are apparently made to work with the Instance Panel. If you haven't imported this panel, do so now (suggestion: wouldn't it be better if the panel would be present in TVPA by default?). To make all the icons of an anim layer visible, click on the left letter B of the panel. But you should realize that the frames are all there anyway even though you can see only the first one. Otherwise I haven't yet found any good reasons to use the Instance Panel in my workflow, although I remain open minded to the possibility and the day I see the light might yet arrive.

I'm sure that you will use the instance panel once you get used to using the instances.

Ahy, a feature with a riddle. I wash the dishes to wash the dishes because I'm washing the dishes.

Well, there's a difference between using the instances and using the instancepanel, isn't it?
But no one forces you to use the instances.
You've proven that you can make good films with your 'classic' methods.
And fast.
So why bother.
