Drawing with Line Smoothing Slower in TVP11

Post by Sewie »

I've been paying much attention to this and I have noticed that drawing with the Line Smooting turned on in TVP is bit harder in TVP11 than in is in TV10.5.
The line goes somewhat slower and it stops a fraction sooner than I intend. Especially when I'm working on a drawing that is zoomed out is this noticeable.

Has anyone else been having trouble with this?

Have you try Lazy Nezumi Pro with TVP11? It acts 100% different in TVPaint 11 than TVPaint 10.5. They need to fix TVPaint 11 with Lazy Nezumi Pro or with Lazy Nezumi Pro, and make it act like TVPaint 10.5.7 with Lazy Nezumi Pro without the bugs already discuss(http://forum.tvpaint.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8711" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) ASAP.

I haven't tried it with Lazy Nezumi. With all the new tools I don't see any reason for it.
Also, I like to keep things simple, so I try to stay with just TVP as much as I can.

It may happen when HUD is enable.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same struggle.

What option of the line smoothing do you use?
Average (Distance)
Pulled-String
Average (Points)

Do you have Real Time and HUD enabled?

Average (Distance)
Real Time
HUD disabled
Smoothing at around 35

I feel the same as the post above, the line goes somewhat slower and it stops a fraction sooner than I intend. I used the same settings in 10, but it felt different.

I usually activate the HUD, that way, I don't feel any kind of delay as I can see the tool I am using to smooth my line.

When using the Average (Distance), the line won't end at the position of your cursor when you let go.
You can try using the Average (Points) and check the option "Catch up", that way, the line will catch up to the position of your cursor.

The ''Catch up'' option is exactly what is was looking for! Thanks a bunch.

One other thing I noticed just now is that when I enable line smoothing on the Pen Brush tool, it's also enabled on the Filled stroke tool. Is there a way to have it enabled on Pen brush but not on Filled stroke? In 10 I'd always shortcut between the two when I needed to erase something quickly & there was no line smoothing on the Filled stroke.

Thanks again.

This is one way to do it:

- capture the two tools in a custom panel.
- for the drawing tool:
  • right click > edit
  • click on one of the menus listed and on "Insert a command"
  • click on the new command "none" and choose "Type script's command" and type : tv_drawsmoothing 1
- for the filled stroke:
  • right click > edit
  • click on one of the menus listed and on "Insert a command"
  • click on the new command "none" and choose "Type script's command" and type : tv_drawsmoothing 0
Add a name for both of them in order to be able to find them in the shortcut window and assign them to your preferred shortcuts.
