cannot export quicktime with alpha (again)

Post by Peter Wassink »

I had this problem before:
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=7055&p=63651&hilit ... pha#p63639" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

when exporting a project as a h264 QT with alpha (no Background) the quicktime on reimport has a black non transparent background?

see image

the two top layers are the reimported QT's
one multiplied and one pre-multiplied.
the only difference i saw was that when exporting in pre-multiplied mode you get to see the checker pattern. in non-premultiplied it looks black.

H.264 is a codec which doesn't support alpha.

Codecs which support alpha are:
- PNG (with millions+ colours checked)
- Apple ProRes

Don't forget to choose RGBA in the export panel.

Ah darn.

Dank Langsame Tiger, i didn't now about that h264 limitation!

i think TVPaint should issue a warning when trying to export RGBA with a codec that doesn't support the A

Quicktime is not managed by TVPaint : what's happening in Quicktime cannot be detected by TVPaint.
