copy layers and clear them

I would like to copy an entire (timed) layer, then clear all the images and use the timed empty layer to draw the clean-ups.
That's not possible now. If I select all the images in the layer and clear them, the timing is gone, and I have lots of single frames.
It's not a major problem, but maybe there is a simple solution to it.

Thanks a lot Hervé, only thing is: I have no idea how to implement this script.
Peter Wassink told me that Zigotto made an instancepanel where this script would fit in perfectly.
Is it an idea if you put this script into that panel and post it again?
