Good news Paul !

By the way, I've split the topic, which was initially created by toonybrain for his art :)

Thanks, Thierry, tylos, Eric and Mark. Is there a chance Sandra and I will run into you at the festival? It's always been my most favorite of all animation festivals because of the selection of films and high quality of visitors and local audiences that gravitate to Zagreb since the early 70's. It's one of the last vestiges to catch good art because it caters to the artists who make the films rather than to current fleeting trends. I saw that David & Alice Fine's film is in competition -- will you two be there, David?

Chad, never. Annecy turns me off. Animation festivals are for animators to meet and exchange ideas and by that I mean ALL animators. Annecy is a money grubber, unkind to animators, holding now only a token amount of not so interesting workshops but caters to the films that are cookie cutter crowd pleasers with the single goal to generate the largest amount of visitors while ignoring what used to be their core mission: selecting films and filmmakers that bring new, innovative ideas to be discussed amongst themselves in a spirit of camaraderie whereas Annecy organizers tend to be divisive with their profiteering greed which pits animator against animator. The result is an overcrowded stressful atmosphere, a money sucker to trick money out of suckers who are treated like cattle.

This is my personal view of a festival that actually invented animation festivals that were once a joyous reunion of friends, fellow independent strugglers filled with good will and eager to share and exchange newly developed knowledge in a safe haven without having to compete with the mega studios that today maintain a stranglehold over the independents not just in the world's marketplace but now even within the once sacred grounds where independents used to celebrate their seclusion from the spoilers and mass producers for at least one week of the year. To wrap this up in a simple sentence; Animation festivals should be for artists and not for producers. The closest to that remains only the Zagreb festival that is cherished by a culturally mature and educated local audience and supportive media.
