Aiko - by Evan Viera

Post by D.T. Nethery »

My friend Jay Jackson (long time Disney animator from the early 1980's - to - 2010 , and at other studios) was the animation supervisor on this , working with several Cal Arts and Gobelins students. Jay mentioned on his Facebook page that the project was animated with TVPaint. This is the teaser trailer to raise additional funding to get the full series produced.

Teaser Synopsis: A young girl is assailed by visions of a looming cataclysm. Ancient demons, dormant for millennia, have awoken; in her dream, they claw their way over the ruins of her homeland. The nightmare intensifies, and she realizes with a sudden clarity: there is only one hope for salvation.

That sounds pretty cool. I like the ambiance in the backgrounds and the theme. Is it based on "real" Japanese myths, is the story fully invented ?

Its near kind of "怪談(KAIDAN, in English Kwaidan・livres à Amazon.fr)" or "the legend of TsuruHime (Princess Tsuru / fictional character)".

Spoiler : Youtube "KAIDAN" movies :

"mixing Asian myths" anime based on Japanese child novel series "MORIBITO"* English translated paperback

In case of MIYAMOTO Musashi

I felt that trailer seems influenced by Princess MONONOKE, Mulan, THE LAST SAMURAI (Directed by Edward Zwick) and 英雄 -HERO- (Directed by Zhang Yimou) .

Very nice rendering, I like the chromatic aberration when well-used!
