Il serait peut-être bon d'ajouter Mirage au comparatif

the only feature i'd really 'want' from the new version coming out on dec11 is the volume light plugin....though i have the option to get the AE volume light plugin for combustion as it's only $99 rather than the full on 400euro upgrade though the new app looks very cool not sure i'd use all it's features...maybe have a look at a demo first off and then see where to go..

a question about the volume light can you set more than a single colour for the light emited like that of the trapcode volumelight?

trapcode plugin is this here btw http://www.trapcode.com/products_shine.html

I noticed the namegiving:

TVP Animation -> TVPaint 8.0
TVP Animation Pro -> TVPaint 8.1

Is tvp animation a seperate program and thus still under developement
or was it just a steppingstone to get to tvpanimation pro?
I guess i would like to know if i have to buy tvp pro if i want any more
(free and payed) tvpanimation updates in the future...

To a certain agree I must also agree with Cresshead. Having just bought TVPaint Animation a very short time ago, it does seem a pricey upgrade and the only thing I feel I am missing is volumetric light.

On the other hand I never asked, is TVPaint Pro going to be higher than 8 bit color, such as doing 10 bit log?

afaik, yes! you'll have 3 source color options :
- the image itself (the curent frame content)
- color, with a gadget to pick wherever, whatever color you want,
- last, but not least, gradient, fully user definable, from 2 (and more) colors! 8)

ps: I'm refering to the volumetric-light_FX from tvpaint 7.5

that looks good...the trapcode plugin has 5 colour slots for the volume light colour and a slew of presets to quickly setup a vol light...so the tvpaint vol light compares well...just need to see if there's a 'special price' if i go n upgrade [crossed fingers!]...though i'd like to run the demo first

Hey Zig and Steve !
I just want to add that you can also create keyframes when you're using this option, meaning that you can create a color cycle for the colors which will be used with this FX 8)

TVPaint vs TVPaint Pro

Postby djm99001 » Mon Jan 15, 2007 9:36 am

I'm also interested in the pricing for the upgrade--but because TVP Pro appears to be a point-release in front of TVP Regular, does this mean that TVP Regular will not be updated for free, ever? I am only interested in a couple of the features in TVP Pro (stabilizing and simple/multiline text) and I'm wondering if there will ever be an update or upgrade that will cost me less than $500 to get those features.

The upgrade from TVP Animation to TVP Animation Pro actually costs :
- 475€ if you have a full license of TVP Animation.
- 225€ if you have an upgrade license of TVP Animation.

We will update TVP Animation and TVP Animation Pro for free in the future with new features. But TVP Animation Pro features won't be added to TVP Animation features as far as I'm concerned.

So how does one go about getting an upgrade to TVPaint Pro? I bought an upgrade to TVPaint Animation a few months ago and now I need those extra features. I don't see a way to upgrade on the page.
