Very interesting - an actual animator explains his way to work with Retas Pro Stylus HD (part 1 ca 7:00 - 13:00). Looks like an interesting program for those inclined to work in that style. But it's 4 times as expensive as TVP ...

We used to have that bent line tool in DP, didn't we? I've used it in DP or in ProMotion, can't really remember now. But it beats the belzier pen all to hell, I think. It is one tool I wish I had back. Also the erasing thing is cool, but I bet it is a vector program for that to work.

the virtual "out of Peg" feature is THE first thing I would like to have for tvpa v.10,
this technic it's very frequently used by assistants/inbetweeners to get correct and accurate inbetweens,
besides, this has been already requested by Toonsister some months ago :

Yesyesyes! It was one of the most timesaving tricks I used when assisting.

The "bent line" thingy makes sense only in a lines-turned-vectors environment, but from the look of it, Retas implemented it really cleverly: only one gesture to define length and curve, and the line erasor options are very useful to. But as long as I don't have to work in that clean and a bit sterile style I can live without that tool.

No, it was in a bitmap program I had the bent line tool. Depending on how near or far you stretched the line before clicking, you controlled the curve in one motion.

Sierra, we already have something like that (or so) in tvpa :
it's called "3 Points" and it's a Spline option in the Shape Settings panel,
draw a 2 points (vector) line, then drag/move the cursor to define the curvature and LMB-click to draw (apply) it.
8)

ps : the "B-Spline" option is not bad too to "ink" (to clean) in that Flash-like (dead) lines ... :)

Hello TVPaint team!

I don't want to speak too much here about Retas HD, but i have to admit when watching the video and by taking a closer look to their website: pretty damn cool ideas over there!!

Are you guys working out some of the functionalities for the next TVPaint release?

Please, let me argue what i (dis)like at first sight when seeing Retas video's/websites:

Pro's:
- interfaces close to adobe. feels familiar and extremely user-friendly (spline-tool <=> bent-line tool)
- tools not covered by actual TVpaint (linegap-closer // dust-eraser//out of peg// ...). This tools are not a revolution but can make the workflow so much easier.

Contra's:
- too expensive: the Retas HD bundle is 3 times as expensive as TVp Pro
- i don't think that the english version of "Retas HD Bundle" is updated like it's japanese version ("Retas Studio"). On english site OS Vista don't even seem to be supported ...
- 4 programm's instead to do the work of one.

keep up the good work! :)

I haven't see this report before : it was really interesting.

Why not, these ideas are great. Why not in TVP 10 ?
