I like all of what you say here but particularly with the color and grayed distinctions, because it also clearly suggests that there should be more to explore within those buttons.

Why this question ? Because "none" is not really correct and using "constant" would be more logical, as the connection mode is a little "c".
well, the real problem here is the actual inconsistency, if you call it "None", the button should be marked [N],
if you call it "Constant", the button should return a [C] .
"None" is ok for me, because I read this feature as "how the Connexion is evotuting ?",
so None is meaning "None evolution" or "No evolutionary",
at contrary of the others, [F] for evoluting with Fade, or [S] for evoluting with Speed .

beside to fix this inconsistency, my suggestion is to add a difference in the button display, according with this user setting,
if it's on "None", it could be greyish, for all the other settings (Fade, Random, Azimute, Speed, etc...), it could be enlighted.

Well, I changed my vote too but I don't know if it subtracted from YES. I ticked other -- meaning that ZigOtto had more than one idea in his definition.

I also like Zig's idea about the yellow / grey difference. But I would prefer to keep "C" for "Constant" or "inaCtive", just because of the User guide and its numerous screenshots

The importance of being "constant"

Postby chatbraque » Fri Nov 25, 2011 4:42 pm

Something that doesn't appear logical to me is to get "invert" and "profile editor" options when "C" is selected ?
(is it effective then ?… maybe i didn't try all the combination… but, … how can you "invert" or "increase/decrease" something that's "constant" ??)

Then, if what i say is not a nonsense, the first thing might be to grayish these options in the window when "C" is selected ?
… and for the button, the gray triangle in the background (that symbolizes the profile) is getting useless too…
( if I'm talking bullshits… just forget it :D )

Image

That said… why are you so mad about using a letter for that ?
… especially the letter "C" which is already used for something else within the timeline ??
(color layer )

… this "constant" option is actually very different from the others choices … it's more a "no" action than an action (?!)
… let's be different… use a symbol !
(why not ?)

So, let's find a symbol ?… to me, something "constant" is something flat… I would have seen a very simple line :

Image

OR… if the idea is closer to "something null" ( a "none" option) … a simple "point" is probably the closest thing to a" zero"…
… and might also do the job (or maybe a dot line) :

Image

Now, as you can see, I'm using a "middle tone" for the symbol's background…
… a gray between the "gray and white" that are part of the former background (profile representation)
… it can't be one nor the other…but something in the middle.

To me a very different color might just be a little more confusing and troublesome…
let's stay gray :?

… well, you asked for advice… that's mine

You're right in the "facts", but in "practical", that's not the same : Profile editors and invert does not change following the connection, they stays the same, whatever if your connection is Pressure or Speed. So, turning in grey those options when using the "none" mode would mean those options change following the connections, which is wrong.

There is indeed something to improve in the connection profiles. I didn't think that simple question would turn the thread into such an interesting debate ! :D
Thank you all !

Naughty boy, you didn't look correctly the coming interface of TVPaint 10 : no more little C for the groups ^^

Such a long time that I hav'nt been called a "boy"… I'm feeling younger… thanks a lot !

… for "naughty"… well… i'm not sure… I tried to be helpfull… nothing more…
(sorry for the .10… I'm not "at it", right now)

but the purpose stay the same… why messing around a letter when a symbol can do a better job !
(you're silent about that  )

I'm silent about that because there are nothing to say. The debate clearly shows that there is something to change about profiles connection, that we cannot do now =)
Now, C / N / Nothing / yellow / grey / rainbow alphabet / christmas tree... it does not any matter : we understand that something has to be improved here !

Now, we are in a state of "why not" that has to be more concrete to say if it's definitely "not" or "yes"

So : why not a "-" instead of "c"

All right… but the thread is intitulate "turn "none" into "constant"…
I felt free to answer and give my opinion… without turning anyone "mad" !

Elodie wrote:I open this topic to have your opinion about something : should we rename the connection mode "None" (= C) into "Constant" ?

… well, if there is nothing to vote for anymore… you'd better close the thread now
(please do … and have a good week-end… you badly need it)

I don't need any explanation Chatbraque, I just said "yes, why not a "-" instead of "c" ?", that's all. I don't ask you to answer me, it's just rhetoric

chatbraque wrote:I felt free to answer and give my opinion… without turning anyone "mad" !

And you felt right =)
Sorry if my answer seemed nervous, it was not my intention.

The vote yes, the thread no. Any other suggestion is good (but any suggestion does not mean TVPaint has to answer each ones instantaneously and cannot be silent... ;))

Elodie has forwarded all your requests, and our dev team is reading all the posts, especially in the "feature request" section. :?
We are reactive. But we need to stabilize the v10 for its official release (manuals, website, software, localization). So as said, any changes will be done in a 10.x, probably 10.5.
Btw, I sent you a MP.
