A basic sound thing and about exporting..

Hello there,

Would much appreciate your help nice people of the forum!

Just finished a little film that needs to be exported with sound. I never needed to export with sound before from TVPaint so I was wondering how to do that? I can only do it so that it comes out mute.

I was also wondering if you had suggestions to what sort of a format would work best if I wanted to load my film on the internet so that it would be as high quality as possible but still small enough to function when being watched? I have never, ever loaded on the internet before and don't really know how that works. Would you have tips on how to do that the best way?

I have worked in 1920X1080 in TVPaint but I can also export through AF if that is needed to shrink it.

To get your sound, there is simply a checkbox in the export panel that reads "export soundtrack". This is assuming you have all your sound on the TVpaint timeline. It will probably matter to what format you export as well. You want to make sure that your sound format is compatible with your video format. For example, certain uncompressed AVI codecs would not allow MP3 or MP4 sound to go with it.

To get your film on the web, you have a number of options, depending on whether you want to control everything yourself or use a video sharing service like Youtube or Vimeo. The sharing services will likely handle everything for you. You simply upload your finished video and they will encode it and then give you "embed codes" that let you stick the video in your own webpage. If you want to control everything yourself, some other techniques will be necessary.

If you are creating video for your own page, I believe MP4 is the format of choice today. You should be able to export this right out of TVP and even shrink it to your desired size, right in the export panel. With Mp4, you can use MP4/AAC sound as well, which will keep the file size down. Depending on whether you are on a Mac or PC, you will have different options, or at least a different looking panel, for choosing your data rate, which will determine how big the file will be, and other aspects of the final video. Since very few people could stream a 1920x1080 video, you could, for example, export at 640x360 with a data rate of 512Kbps and get a great result.

Thank you very much for your kind answer and time.
I do however still struggle with rendering. I found out that "MP4" is called H.264 in the AF but cannot find anything that sounds like either MP4 or H.264 on the TV paint. Through AF I only get the sound out and through TV Paint nothing small enough.

Could you please tell me excatly how to find the MP4 from the TVPaint?

I am attending a competition and running out of time in a few days. Been trying to get this thing on the internet platform for a week already.. :-/

Depending on your platform, you may be able to export with H264 encoding using QuickTime (although I believe this is not possible on 64-bit platforms). But you can export using the internal AVI (which I have found to be very compatible with just about everything) and then transcode as needed to other platforms using whatever external tool you like (Quicktime Pro, Sony Vegas, etc).

Personally, unless I am doing quick tests, I rarely export video directly from TVPaint, but instead export my projects as PNG sequences and then put everything together with a video editor like Sony Vegas or kdenlive. That way you have more control over the audio and can make final edits, make sure the timing is really how I want it, add transitions, automation, effects, etc., From there you can render out whatever formats you need, like MP4, AVI, MOV, OGV, etc.

Could you please tell me excatly how to find the MP4 from the TVPaint?

You still have to start with either AVI or Quicktime, depending on your platform, and this will lead you to MP4. For example, as I am on the Mac, I would choose to export Quicktime. In the parameters panel for Quicktime, I can choose MP4 and then export that file from TVP.

If time is a serious issue, I would suggest using something like Vimeo or Youtube. You can export from TVP in just about any format that works and let them deal with the rest. You can still put the video on your own page, using the embed codes from Vimeo or Youtube.
