MJ Out Of Pegs Panel

Post by Mads Juul »

I like my Out Of Peg Preview to have its own Framerate.
So I have made a Custom Panel to do this.
Here is a screen shot of the panel so you can see what the buttons do

That's great, Mads. Do you know if, instead of "Play" there is a way to have a "go to next unpegged drawing" and "go to previous unpegged drawing"? I would like to flip the out of peg drawings manually, back and forth, the way you do when working with paper and with the inbetween drawing on the top. That would be excellent. Also, as long as I'm making wishes, it would be useful to be able to play the out of peg drawings in Ping-Pong mode as a cycle. Thanks!

I would prefer this as well. But it is NOT possible. I will suggest you make a feature request . If you do I will certainly support it. And maybe the devellopers will listen, (but I think it is hard to implement, this is why it isnt implemented yet)if enough users is missing the feature of manually flip out of peg drawings.

I actually made a feature request for flipping out of pegs a year ago
http://forum.tvpaint.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6069
I can see no one have posted in the thread. So how many people actually need a Flip out of peg feature?
I understand the TVPaint developers need to spend time on the features most users want.

When rereading the thread I can see it ws me who suggested a Preview flip shortcut. but I would prefer to be manually.

I'm actually not animating anymore. so I am not using the out of peg feature. and I have found out it is a bad habit and waste of the developers time to ask for features I dont use. So i will not asked for a manual Out of Peg feature until I need it again, BUt I think it is a bettersolution.

Frankly, I don't even understand how it is used and what the advantages would be for me.

The Out of pegs I use often enough but why would I want to flip all out of pegs frames? Usually I am dealing with just three when I need to copy a frame from somewhere way up or down the timeline and trace it between two existing frames. The flipping I do with the real frames on the timeline.

Fuss as in to be fussy about how your eggs are boiled. Fuzz would be an abbreviation of fuzzy, as in furry and cute. (You don't mind me saying so, do you?)

And maybe the devellopers will listen, (but I think it is hard to implement, this is why it isnt implemented yet)if enough users is missing the feature of manually flip out of peg drawings.
The main problem is that you would have the focus on one specific image (to create the Out-Of-Pegs conditions) and also the focus would be on an other one at the same time (to flip between the Out-Of-Pegged images).
So where would you be in the timeline ?

There is nothing impossible in the request (which is perfectly understandable and makes sense), but we have no idea about how to implement it correctly.
So any idea is welcome. :)

PS : let me know if you need me to illustrate what I said with a picture. It might help.

An idea
An instance can have its own name. What if it could have its own out of peg position? Im not talking about the display in the lighttable, but the actual display in the zoom window.something Like when i'm using the transform tool, before I apply and the red square is visible , at this point my drawing is displayed in another position , it is displayed "Out of peg" .
What if we could stick this position and continue with other work like: flipping, preview, enable lighttable, drawing etc.
