Colours for image marks and Colour Groups

Post by JQuinn »

I'm trying to colour my frames with different coloured image marks, to denote what is a key and in-between etc but the colours seem to be linked to my newly preset colours in the Colour Group which identify the layers. Is there a way of assigning separate colours to the image marks and colour groups?

Thanks :(

hi Joanna,
do you use the "Image Mark Panel" to set your color marks ?
(windows->tool->image mark panel)

yes but if I try and rename or change any of the colours in the Image Mark Panel it automatically makes the same changes to the Colour Group panel.

If I remember well those colors are universal in the software. It can be a good thing to separate them I agree, seems more intuitive to me.

A good evolution would be choosing exactly each color for each slot in each panel and having the posibility to have more slots if needed (but you can always have less).

Its not a problem for me because I use the same colors for the two options and if I need a distinction between the two sets of colors I often dont use all the possible colors slots for each, so red for image marks and blue for layers for exemple. And you hide the unused colors in your panels

Yes, sadly, colour group for layers and colours to mark images are the same :s

Ok 2 more questions...

1. If the colours are the same is there a way of renaming the colours in Image marks differently to the Colour Group names?
2. Is there a way of creating more colours i.e. more than 12?

Thx

I'm afraid I have to answer no to both questions :s

Layers and frames share the same colour groups, so if you rename one, you will rename the other...
I don't know if it's possible to split both.

I was astonished too, as I noticed the colors of the image marks and the layers are connected. Is there a reason why they're connected ? If not maybe they could be splitted. At least for me they're used for completely different meanings.

Indeed ! But here, I cannot say whether it's easy or not, a developer shall answer instead of me :)

Not so easy.
For example (without speaking technical issues), one of the problem would be to not break existing projects/config/... by modifying this behavior.

That's something I thought about too. But maybe it could be a solution to link or split both color schemes and make it linked by default? So it's downward compatible too.

Well, knowing how to solve a bug/feature, is sometimes faaaaaaaaar away from coding it :)
That's why I said "without speaking internal technical issues", but I added to our TODO list.

hehe sorry. Of course "how it could work" and "how it's coded" is probably not really related to another, at least in the complexity, but I'm glad it's on the list.
