Export files: introduction

The option File > Export project to… is used to convert your TVPaint project into a format of your choice: animated AVI, GIF, MOV, MP4, or a numbered image sequence in commonly used image formats such as PNG, JPG, TIF etc.

This option is present in the File main menu. Once selected, the following panel appears:

Its layout should be familiar to you. You may choose to export an image, an image sequence, a video, keep the layers or a custom brush (possibly animated). You will see 4 different tabs: Project: DisplayClip: DisplayClip: Layers structure and Custom Brush: Display. Each tab will be discussed in that lesson, but first of all, we will see the first part of the export panel, identical from a tab to another.

*The first section of the panel contains several options:

-The Browse button and an associated text field are used to enter the name and location of the file to be exported.

-The Recent folders button will allow you to browse the recent folders you’ve chose to export your projects to. Note that it won’t appear unless you’ve previously exported a project.

-"As" allows to choose the kind of export you want:

• Single image: save the image visible in the right section of the panel only.
• Sequence: save, frame per frame, the images of your Clip or Project (Professional Edition only). All images will be exported if the Full range checkbox is checked.

You can also select the images you want to export by unchecking the Full range checkbox: the images located between the Mark In and Mark Out points will then be saved. If certain frames are selected in your Clip, the Mark In and Mark out values will be automatically set according to this selection.

By default, the images are numbered as follows: file_name00000, file_name00001, … … … file_name_00250… The Sequence option turns to Animation when exporting in a video format.

-Animation: save the frames of your Clip or Project (Professional Edition only) in a single file. All the frames will be exported if the Full range checkbox is selected. You can can uncheck it to export frames located between the Mark In and Mark Out points. If certain frames are selected in your Clip, the Mark In and Mark out values will be automatically set according to this selection. This option is available for some file formats (AVI, GIF, MOV, MP4…).

-Export and Cancel are used to export your animation or cancel the export process (thus closing the export panel). But before exporting anything, we will study the options from the different tabs.

Once all of the options are set for the current project in the export project panel, they will be linked to the current project. Each time the export project panel will be opened, all the parameters will be set to the values previously chosen by the user the last time they exported a file from this project.
