Basic Flip

The Basic Flip is the first kind of flip you can choose.

It is the best if you want to have a quick preview of your work, because it can play your animation on the images you wish to see (according to several parameters), and come back to the current image on which you were working just before flipping.

- First of all, you can identify your Flips with a Name. The green square below is an alphanumeric field, as we already saw a few times already. Click outside of this field to validate, the new Name appears in the contextual menu on top of the panel.

- The following line will remind you the chosen Flip Type, in case you changed the default name.

- The option below lets you choose the Limits : Current clip, Current layer, Mark In/Out, Bookmarks, Image marks or Custom.…

Several limits depend on what you parameters you can set in your project (Mark In/Out, Bookmarks, Image Marks – see lesson 4 for these notions).

- If you choose between the first four limits, the proposed Checkpoints will be the following ones :

* Images will play all images while flipping, from the current frame to the first one, then to the last one and will go back to the current one.
* Instances will flip from instances heads to instance heads, from the current frame to the first, then to the last to go back to the current one.
* Marks will open a new category of checkpoints : Keys.
* Bookmarks will only flip from bookmarks to bookmarks, but with the same mode as the previous ones.

You will have the choice to play All Keys, or only one Image Mark color.

This configuration will play the Flip only from Marks to Marks, but with the same mode as the previous ones.

If you choose Marks in the Limits, new Limits specific to the Image Marks will appear.

You will have the choice to play All Marks, or only one Image Mark color. You will once again be able to change Checkpoints (Images, Instances, Marks, Bookmarks).

Finally, in Limits, you have the last option, Custom.

Here, the number of frames flipped before and after the current image can be set with the adjacent numeric fields or mini-sliders.

Be careful to not have the two limits set to 0, otherwise flipping would be impossible.

Be also careful to where you set your current image and how many played images you will limit on the left. You might see negative images appear. In the below example, the left limit is 6, and the current image in on the first frame.

This Flip can give the following view :

But don’t worry : to go back to a classic visualisation of the Timeline, right-click on the button (outlined in red in the screenshot below) to show the contextual menu and choose Fit to View All.

- You can also check the Out of pegs square to activate this option, that we learned in the previous chapter.

- You can change the frequency of Flip per second thanks to the adjacent alphanumeric field or mini slider. It is advised to choose a frequency inferior to the project’s one to have a slower, thus more relevant Flip. This option will obviously not change any of the project’s parameters.

- Finally, you must also assign a Shorcut to your Basic Flip. The shortcut panel will open when you will click on Assign….

Assign a key, as we learned in lesson 1.

Your Flip is created.
