Re: Why do you work with tvp

Because I paid a lot of money for it? *g* I started with Mirage, following an ad on AWN (see, advertising pays!). Then shifted over to TVP v9 which has a lot of improvements but still a UI which I found hard to get comfortable with. As with all software, lots of training now enables me to work quite...

Better import

The way TVP deals with importing images leaves me quite unsatisfied right now. 1. The whole operation isn't consistently implemented at all places. I should expect the program to react the same, wether I use the "import footage" command or "open" some file. But when I import a .P...

Re: how do I set up new sound ?

There's more than one track for sound, at least in my TVP Pro 9 version. I can easily load several sounds and delete them again.

Re: alpha channel (how to make solid with paper?)

I had the same problem when I started with TVP. My workflow now includes colouring every character with a solid colour and NO paper first. This way I can be absolutely sure there's no hidden transparenccy in my characters. I keep this solidly coloured layer separate, in case I want to change colours...

Re: crash help! part 2

Well, I use both TVP and AS, and I follow discussions about missing features in both support forums a lot. My opinion is to optimise the functions which are already there and optimise the UI is enough, but the developers shouldn't add features which just don't belong into a certain program. I don't ...

Re: "multiply"-like layer option

Hm, you could try a different way. How about drawing with colour on the b/w layer, brush set to "darken"? There's several options to colour line art. - Line art drawn in TVP: layer is transparent, colouring with brush set to "behind" - Scanned line art, white parts removed with S...

Re: "multiply"-like layer option

In the "Pro" version the layer modes are just unter the percentage slider for the opacity, by default you see "Color". However, you may still be able to apply the "multiply" mode - I just guess you can do that in the standard version because this was the only way to do ...

Re: crash help! part 2

Drawing big stuff in TVP, exporting as PNG (with alpha if needed), import into AS, play around. You should give it a try, right now the standard version of AS is only 30 $. I've noticed that AS isn't slowed down by pics in bigger dimensions (greater than 1000 x 2000 px) as much as TVP (on my machine...

Re: crash help! part 2

My own experience with big projects in TVP is much better. Even a file of 7 GB was no problem to work with, aside from the expected long saving times. I did experience crashes, however, quite regularly if I had an extraordinary large brush in use, like a complete BG which I wanted to position easily...

Re: crash help! part 2

I usually avoid to work with such big projects, mainly because my G5 PPC isn't the fastest machine. If I need to, maybe because I have to zoom into a scene with lots of movement, I start with the big BG, then crop it to several smaller projects where I animate. After all these are finished, I export ...

Re: move a layer: keyframes for position - how to?

The recipe in a nutshell: Project 1: your HDTV project Project 2: your big image. Both open at the same time. In Project 1 you create an empty animation layer of the desired length. Then go to frame 1 in the timeline and open the FX stack with the Keyframer. Select the image in Project 2 as source u...

Re: Replacing colors [noob question, sorry]

This depends highly on what you want to do and the state your file is in right now. Do you want to change only one colour at a time? Do you want to change the overall colour mood? Do you want to balance elements against each other in compositing? Do you have only one layer now? Is every elemnt still...

Re: Scripting in the standard version

Export will always render visible layers only, so all you have to do is to export in several passes, in each only switching the wanted layers visible. Take care on the naming of your export files!
