Eraser Issues

Post by acrookedheart »

When using a pen or pencil, the eraser works fine when I flip the stylus.
But when I'm using the Fill Stroke and flip to use the eraser, it just keeps the Filled Stroke.
Is this an issue? Feature? I've always just dealt with it.

Xavier wrote: 14 Oct 2020, 17:15 Sorry, I'd still need to know the environment. Especially for the graphic tab management, which graphic tab under which OS. And which version of TVPaint, thanks :)
Oops.

Windows 10 Pro build 19041.572 64 bit
TVPaint Professional 11.0.10 64bit
Cintiq 24 HD pro, no touch capability and latest drivers
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @3.40 GHZ
Ram 16gigs

Does this help?

I can record a video if you want.

From the tests I've done, the eraser is active only when drawing a stroke or a line, right ?

So I understand that you would like to erase any shape drawn with the "gum" of the stylet, is that correct ? like the "line" behaviour for instance

If you use the fill tool I guess the best way to ease that is to press F4 and set that tool to erase.
Then you can erase in the same way as you draw.

I always use the rocker switch of the wacom pen for erasing,
and never use the back of my wacom pen.

its about 29 to 32 times faster then flipping your pen around (and yes i timed this!... well no i didn't really, but as an estimation its not far off)

just make sure the front part of the switch is set to right klick and all your pen actions are in erase mode.
this goes for both free-hand stroke and fillingshape.

It is so effortless that i'm always astounded by people that flip their pen around.
But maybe the way that you grip your pen could be a factor, my index finger naturally rests on top of the switch during drawing, and that might be different for others.

Well well ... shall I let it as is ?

What behaviour to adopt when one flips his pen while drawing a shape ? I can think of several possibilities:
1) no change of the drawing mode (current behaviour)
2) just disable the tool, no drawing possible
3) switch to the free stroke eraser
4) set the drawing mode to erase (F4)

I would go for 2) or 4). But you guys seem to have different opinions about this, so maybe it's better to keep it as it is.

Keep it as it is.

It was not a bug.
The desired functionality can simply be achieved by setting up the wacom pen as i described.

I agree! That works great and is much more efficient.
Thanks Peter

Well in the meantime I implemented the solution 4: when drawing filled shapes using the stylus, if you flip the stylus then the drawing mode is switched to erase (F4).
I feel the software is more consistent like this :)
