Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite and TVPaint Animation

Post by Thierry »

New version of Mac OS X, so new topic !

All discussions related to Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite should take place in this topic.

I would say no.
At least, not until a few days, until drivers are correctly updated : Wacom for example, but also the Safenet dongle drivers which don't fully work in Yosemite (at least in the beta they weren't correctly working with network licences : the server was not launching when booting the OS...).

Known issues with Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite and TVPaint Animation 10
  • When you go in System Preferences > Accessibility > Display and click on Increase contrast, TVPaint Animation's interface will become completely grey. (64-bits only)
  • When you go in System Preferences > General and change Appearance from Blue to Graphite (or from Graphite to Blue), TVPaint Animation's interface will become completely grey. (64-bits only)
  • When you go in System Preferences > General and modify the Highlight color setting, TVPaint Animation's interface will become completely grey (64-bits only)
While we are working on a fix, you need to force a refresh, which can be done by :
    - stretching TVPaint Animation's window
    - or double clicking on the title bar
  • There is a small lag when drawing with the 64-bits version of TVPaint Animation.
  • This lag is present in the 32-bits version too, however it makes the use of TVPaint Animation impossible.
To fix the 32-bits issue, you need to uncheck the Use OpenGL option in Preferences > General menu in TVPaint Animation. We are looking in the 64-bits issue.

Update 4th of November 2014 :
Regarding the lag, we discovered that there is probably an issue with the Wacom drivers as they don't send all of the informations. This is a regular issue happening wich each new version of Mac OS X. This also happened in Photoshop, ArtRage and Painter.

In the screenshot above, the green dots are the result of a slow drawing stroke, and the red ones are the result of a fast drawing stroke.
You can see that some red points are missing.
This should be solved in the next release of Wacom drivers.

  • Network licences only : The Sentinel Protection Server does not start when the OS boots. This means that if your Mac is acting as a "server", other computers on the network will not be able to detect the dongle, thus will not be able to use TVPaint Animation.
We are waiting on Safenet to provide a new version of the drivers, so in the meantime you must start the server manually each time the OS boots. This can be done by executing these commands as a root user :

    Code: Select all

    cd "/Applications/Sentinel/Sentinel Protection Server"
    sudo ./spnsrvmac

You will be then asked to enter your password. The server should be running.
I repeat, this is for network licences only, and only in the case in which your Mac acts as the server.

If you notice an issue that is not listed here, please let us know.

Are these issues with Max OS X 10.10 Yosemite still ongoing or have the issues been resolved ? Is it now safe to update to Yosemite ?

We're still looking into these bugs.

You can upgrade to Yosemite if you want, but I strongly advise not to do if you have network licences, as the issue with Safenet is still not resolved.

I have added some information concerning the lag occurring with the 64-bits version of TVPaint Animation on Yosemite.

We are still working with Safenet to resolve the issue with the Sentinel Server not starting when Yosemite boots (network version only)

The new drivers didn't fix this issue.

I'm having issues with the regular dongle (no network dongle). Are there new drivers available?

The light on the dongle is on at start, but sometimes starts flashing or turns off altogether.

Wacom drivers are fine, no lag when drawing here.

The lag depends on both tablet model and Mac model + OS.
So it's hard to figure out when it occurs exactly.

It might be defective. I will send you a PM.

I've been experimenting with why my lines were jagged and choppy with the Yosemite upgrade. I learned that if I expanded to full screen on my Mac the lines became smooth again. ( Press the green button on top corner of the program. ) I've attached some examples and hope this helps. THX
