Hi Paris,

We would really like to upgrade the existing products on Bogart, really !

However, in spite of the arrival of Loewe and our numerous proposals, we have currently no serious answer about the financing.
They also said we would receive a new Bogart computer with the new Linux SDK, we are still waiting for it.

Upgrading our products will require several months of work, please understand that our developpers can unfortunalety not work for free ... :(

At the moment, I have unfortunalety no other possibility than telling you to upgrade to TVP Animation 9.5.

Hi Fabrice,

Thank you for your honest and quick response. That is the best answer I have heard in quite a while. For those of us who invested in CB Paint and Casablanca in general, I have been trying to sell my Bogart unit in order to upgrade to TV Paint Animation PRO. TV Paint PRO (THE PARENT PRODUCT) is more powerful, so thank you for your excellent advice. I am almost on board with TV Paint animation PRO. I look forward extending my creativity with this powerful product.

Hi Fabrice,

I'm a Casablanca Bogart user having a license for CBPaint2 but release of that program never happened
since early 2008.
Now I'm thinking of finding a way to use TVPaint on my W7 PC/32Bit importing scenes from Casablanca and
exporting those TVPaint scenes back to Casablanca.
I would like to do an experiment.
Which format will be accepted by TVPaint? HD-AVCHD-Files? HD-AVI-Files?
Which output format has TVPaint to be imported again to Casablanca?
To check I would send 2 possible Casablanca-Formats as short scenes on DVD or USB-Stick to you.
Maybe you could do some work with TVPaint on those short scenes?
And in return export those TVPaint scenes again to a second emty DVD or same USB-Stick?
I then could check if those TVPaint scenes can be imported again to Casablanca.

Very interested to read your reply

Many greeting from Berlin

Hello Hans,

About the import.
TVPaint Animation can import many many formats.
To test your files, you can download the DEMO version of TVPaint Animation and see if your files can be imported by TVPaint Animation.

Now about the export.
TVPaint Animation can export many many formats.
But, to be able to import the files in Bogart again, you should choose QUICKTIME format (with h264 compression) or the native AVI MJPEG format in the TVPaint Animation 10 export menu. (but not available in the DEMO version)
With these formats I have no problem to import the files again in Bogart.

Here is another topic which can help too.

Hi Mike,

I too would like to be able to export/import directly between TVP and Bogart. I'm on 9.5Pro and so far have only been able to do it by using Vegas Video as a go between. The solution you offer with TVP 10 does not seem to be available in 9.5. All my efforts so far have failed, often ending in the instantaneous crash of Bogart. Do you have a solution? I guess I'm not alone. I think there are lots of frustrated CBPaint owners out there who might go down the TVPaint route if there was an easy link to Bogart.

Hi Alan,

The solution should work in TVP 9.5 too because the format AVI or QUICKTIME exists, but you must choose a codec which compresses (as H264 for QT).
You can select the codec with the button "Config" near the format popup.
It seems that an UNcompress video file will crash Bogart.

In which format you export when you use Vegas Video ?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Here is a copy of the answer I gave to Hans on the Cassi forum about how I transfer between Cassi and TVP

----------------------------------
Hi Hans-Joachim König,

I now use TVPaint, and I must say it is very good. The forum is a mine of information an everyone is very helpful. I use Vegas Video as a go between Cassi and TVPaint. I do a story board back up to external HD then import the file to Vegas, then render it to another file for import to TVP. The files are 1080i HD I've not yet done SD. This how it goes.

Render from Vegas for TVP Video for windows .AVI HD1080i 50i YUV

Export from TVP to Vegas AVI Direct show uncompressed YUV RGB upper field first.

Then in Vegas render as Main Concept MPEG-2 HDV 1080 50i saves as .m2t file. This imports to Cassi via Media manager. Attempts to import directly via the USB icon in the record window results in an instantaneous crash. Cassi S4000pro with latest software inc Arabesk 5. I produce my BlueRay discs via Vegas Video, as Arabesk 5 has to many issues.

-------------------------------------------------------

Following your advice and going through the Export to function I do not have the option to use Quicktime this only seems to available in the save file area.

What is there is AVI direct show and others that do not seem applicable. In the Config window there is no H.264 shown. What is available is H.263 this promptly crashes TVP as soon as the export button is pressed. All files from Cassi are HD 1080 x 1920 or 1440. All 50i.

Am I missing something?

Hi Alan and Hans,

I'm using TVPaint 9 together with Bogart since about 1 year and have no problems.
My HDV 1440i files are transfered from Bogart "scene bin" to the MediaManager via "scene export" without conversion.
The export from the MediaManager goes as PC AVI Direct Format either to an USB stick or via home net directly to the PC.
In TVPaint I create a project in 1920x1080 p. There I open my file as a layer. Here I have to notice the pixel aspect ratio = 1.333 as the imported footage is 1440 i.
Now there are no problems to work on it.
For the export of the clip under "file / export to..." I chose the following settings:
Format: AVI Config.: ffdshow Video Codec
Mode: RGBA
Alpha: PreMult
Animation Convert Clip to Custom
Preserve Proportion: checked
Width: 1920
Height: 1080 Frame Rate: 25
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000
Fields: Progressive
Background: ---
Correct Aspect: checked
Stretch to Frame Rate: checked
Time Interpolation: ---
Export Soundtrack: checked

Notice: I use the ffdshow Video Codec, which you can get for free in the internet. It is installed on my PC and I'm not able to say if the AVI export would work in TVPaint without it.
In the meantime I have upgraded to TVPaint 10. Here the export panel has changed a little bit. But I also found an export format "HD 1920 p" that works as fine as before.

The reimport to Bogart goes via MediaManager as well. And there is no problem with the 1920 p footage.

Regards, Dieter

Quicktime Pro should be installed on your computer.

Hi Dieter,

Thanks for your most helpful information. I've downloaded ffdshow and now the PC AVI direct file loads into TVP. The version I have is Beta 7.

It also imports to Cassi via Media Manager, so for with poor results. The several codecs in the ffdshow config window I've tries are very blocky, What codec do you use?

The file exported from Cassi is of a breaking wave. I've added a little animated surfer to it. Imported back into Cassi the waves are a mass of blocks. I've tried MPEG-4; MPEG-2; H.264; H.264 lossless, these I think are X.264 codecs. Perhaps I am missing something?
