Canvas rotation reset

Post by Sewie »

Hello dear TVP friends,

When resetting the rotation of the canvas, the canvas seems to snap back to a random area. Usually not to the area that I was drawing in. Would it be possible to have the canvas rotate around that area that I was drawing in? So that I wouldn't have to navigate back to that area to continue on the part of the canvas I was working on.

I know it's easy to navigate back to the work area using the 'alt' button and a right mouse click, but it's about staying in the flow and the concentration. It's usually very jarring to me when that part of the canvas I'm working on (for instance the left hand corner of the canvas zoomed into and rotated) is suddenly out of screen when the rotation snaps back to it's reset. It would be much more intuitive if the drawing stayed on screen.

If you zoom in so the project is bigger than the window, it resets around the center of the disc you see while rotating, which is reasonable and good enough for me.

Hi Slowtiger, thank you for your answer. In my case the problem is that while doing clean up work I tend so zoom in quite a bite. While zoomed in I also rotate the canvas a lot. When I then reset the rotate canvas the piece (or whatever) Im working on disappears of the screen.. I usually click on the navigator to get the image back, but I think the possibility to lock the zoom would be a good feature to have for people like me (or the original poster) to "keep the workflow flowing".

EDIT: as the OP stated, this is specially dramatic when you are working on some of the corners of the drawing space, in those cases you maybe ended up in other corner after resetting the canvas rotation.

Ah, I see. I've set up keystrokes for "reset rotation" and "fit project to window", so if I happen to land outside the drawing area or wherever I just press 2 keys. Going back to the small area zoomed in of course has to be done manually.

i use 3 keys for:
Turning CCW, Turning CW and Reset Rotation

A=zoom: rotate +15(counter clockwise)
S=zoom: rotate -15(counter clockwise)
Q=zoom: rotation reset + zoom: fit

Hi Peter,
thank you for jumping in. I also have the canvas rotation, the reset button and the zoom set to hotkeys, so I can get back to the initial position fairly quick. Its just kind of frustrating that I’m always “kicked out” every time I reset the rotation (provided Im quite zoomed in). Ideally, I would like to be able to lock the navigator so I can stay inside the zoomed area as much as I want. A simple button would do.
