Brushes flip when Zoom:Flip Horizontally is toggled

Post by cgmodeler »

Brushes with Azimuth enabled get reflected when the Flip Horizontally is enabled.

Eg. You tilt the brush to the SouthEast (135°)
Then you flip horizontally to draw a comfortable curve
The brush is also flipped to it's negative angle, so instead of being 135° its around 225° even if the pen is physically at an angle of 135°.

Hey cgmodeler,
Could you send me the brush you are working with via PM so I can reproduce your issue on my part, please? :)

flip horizontally basicly flips all of TVPaints output in the project view, including the tools.

What cgmodeler is requesting is that the brushes\tools be exempt from this.
I agree!

The flip hor. option is mostly used to 'mirror-check' your work and spot deviation caused by the artist asymmetric way of looking at his or her work.
its great that tvpaint lets you also work in this mode, it makes it easier to correct this bias.
it is a non permanent flip because if you check your navigator ... or try to export... you will notice the project was not actually flipped.

Therefore i think its a good idea to not flip the tool outputs when you activate Flip Horizontal.
Make it so that tools keep working as if the output flip did not occur.

Same problem with any orientation of custom brushes: in rotated or mirrored view they're not usable.

So you agree with the request to exempt all tools from Zoom: flip
