Bokeh

Post by slowtiger »

You all know this effect in photography, when parts out of focus show this very distinctive texture which is quite different from a simple blur. I struggled a long time to get a similar effect in digital painting, to get the right kind of background for a close-up, but only this week I dreamt a solution and implemented it in TVP. Here's the very first result:

It's done with 3 brushes: a very smooth wash brush to create the overall color. A brush of lots of drips for some of the foliage. And a simple circle, a bit blurred, already transparent, set to 22% opacity and this opacity following pen pressure, for the white parts. I think it came out nicely, what do you think? And one can animate it!
